City of Darwin has launched a new Cyclone Tracy website to collate information on events, activities and initiatives taking place to commemorate the 50th anniversary of one of the most significant events in our city’s history.

Community members are invited to explore the website, submit their own commemorative events, activities and initiatives for inclusion, sign up for updates and contribute to the digital archive via books, artworks and documentaries.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the website was designed as a hub for sharing information and discovering local initiatives commemorating the anniversary.

“The Cyclone Tracy 50th anniversary website is intended to be a hub to house details about events, activities and initiatives taking place, both locally and across the country, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“It is accessible via City of Darwin’s website, or by its unique URL, cyclonetracy.darwin.nt.gov.au.

“The website will be a central digital platform that will allow people to access educational resources and discover commemoration initiatives and activities taking place in the lead up to the anniversary.

“The site includes information about all the activities taking place to commemorate Cyclone Tracy, including information about grant recipients, details about local events and activities and access to resources including podcasts, artworks and documentaries.

“I encourage members of the community, partner organisations, community groups and not-for-profit organisations to submit details about their activities and explore what else is taking place between now and December,” he said.

The site will also provide information on key commemoration initiatives, including an official ceremony on 30 November 2024 which will be a free, public event that will recognise Cyclone Tracy’s profound impact on Darwin.
